From: igriggs@easynet.co.uk (ian griggs) Date: Sat, 31 Aug 1996 20:41:13 +0100 Subject: GROUP NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 1996 Hi People! Once again, for convenience and as a cost-cutting exercise, I am sending out this month's newsletter by email to those who can receive it. If anyone prefers to go back to the old snailmail method, please let me know. MEMBERSHIP Another successful month in which we have welcomed new members. We continue to attract newcomers from overseas and August has seen Mike Blackwell (Pflugerville, TX) and Pete Colley (Cyprus) join our ranks. From this country, we welcome Larry Furlong (Liverpool) and Stephen Morley (Peterborough). Both Mike and Pete met with members of the group during their August visits to this country. Another welcome overseas member was Ray Brown - on a flying visit from Japan. THE AUGUST MEETING Our first meeting at "The Homesford Cottage", Whatstandwell, Derbyshire attracted 19 members and Matthew Smnith delighted everyone with another of his smooth and polished presentations. We were also treated to Steve Lamb's account of his current research into Nelson Delgado in the course of which he has established contact with Delgado's Manchester-born widow Yvonne. The monthly quiz, set by Ian Griggs, was won by David Williams, a guest from Liverpool, and he has agreed to set the September quiz. NEXT MEETING - SUNDAY 15th SEPTEMBER We will be at another new venue for this meeting, Jonathan Notman having booked us into "The Barn", Mwyndy, near Llantrisant in South Wales. Another of our Welsh members, Paul Henwood, will be our lead speaker. Paul is the man who successfully located Parkland nurse Diana Bowron and he will let us into a few of the secrets of this type of research. Other members who have conducted similar work will also share some of their techniques. As usual, the meeting opens at 2.00pm sharp - with drinks, meals, etc. available from 12 noon. Please contact me direct if any problems or if you wish to share transport. DIRECTIONS TO THE BARN "The Barn" is situated just a mile or so from Junction 34 on the M4 motorway. Leave at Junction 34 and take the A4119 road north towards LLANHARAN. You pass the MISKIN MANOR HOTEL on your left and then pass through a set of traffic lights with the CASTELL MYNACH pub on your right. Continue on the A4119 and take the next turning right opposite a Gulf service station. The signpost reads MWYNDY CROSS INDUSTRIES. "The Barn" is 100 yards down at the bottom of the lane. THE NEW TOURIST ATTRACTION IN DALLAS You may have heard through the grapevine - or in "The People" of Sunday 25th August - about Robert Groden's latest venture in Dallas. Together with a business partner, he has purchased a Lincoln limo, identical in every way to the 1963 motorcade car. For $25 you can sit in it for a re-enactment of the motorcade from Love Field to Parkland via Dealey Plaza. The vehicle is fitted with a sophisticated sound system and as you pass the book depository, shots ring out. The limo then takes off towards the hospital at speed - to the accompaniment of police sirens. This enterprise was discussed atout last meeting and was given a unanimous thumbs-down on the grounds of taste - mainly due to the sound effects. The moral pros and cons of it have been well-aired on the internet. Presumably it will still be running in November - when many of us will have the opportunity for a closer look. What next? A Chappaquidick car ride perhaps! Swimming costumes recommended.
